Cooling the Dunes: Supporting Wetland Restoration at Mon Repos

Each summer, marine turtles return to Mon Repos on the Bundaberg coast — one of Australia’s most significant turtle rookeries. Rangers monitor sand temperatures closely, as incubation conditions directly influence hatchling survival.

Behind the dunes, a landscape restoration project is quietly restoring the natural wetland system that once filtered water through the sand before it reached the ocean. By slowing water and allowing it to pool and seep gradually through the dunes, the system can help moderate sand temperatures during nesting season.

During a recent site visit, we had the opportunity to see this work firsthand and provide practical support through the use of our precision air seeder to assist with native groundcover establishment around the wetland perimeter.
